Canned Chinese radishes
Since I arrived back in England, I have saved money by not buying food. Instead I’ve been eating only what my Dad buys and whatever is in the kitchen cupboards.
Well today I thought I'd try a can of radishes. They're from a Chinese supermarket. Ingredients are: Chinese radishes (funnily enough), chilli powder, salt, and spices.
And they’re horrible. I can barely eat them because they’re so salty. In fact, the packaging says that the food is 13% salt.
Wait a minute... the content of the can is 340 grams... so 13% of this is 44.2 grams! Apparently there is 44.2 grams of salt in this single can. And the NHS recommends eating only 6 grams of salt a day... so in this can, there's over a week's allowance of salt. Jesus Christ China, are you trying to give me a heart attack? I could salt my enemies' fields for all eternity with this single can.
