British holidays and notable special days
Just saw guests on the Politics Show already wearing poppies for Rememberence Day, two and a half weeks before the actual day! This brought to my mind the idea that around early November there is a glut of holidays and special days, a feat which isn't matched at any other time of the year. A close second might be Christmas Day and New Year's Eve, which are only six days apart.
31 Oct - Halloween
5 Nov - Guy Fawke's Night
11 Nov - Rememberence Day
14-20 Nov (whichever day that year is a Friday) - Children in Need telephon
Arguably the Children in Need telephon is not a special day, but to me it is, as it has a highly media-covered buildup over the several weeks culminating in a surreal night-long TV event that makes even me feel warm inside.
After New Year's Eve, there's nothing for three months or so until Easter in April (excluding Valentine's Day which I am blind to), and then pretty much nothing again until Halloween, over six months away. Between Easter and Halloween there are tons of Bank Holidays though, and the school holidays if you're affected by that. So I hope that like me, you have your birthday in that long six month period to break the monotony.
