The shit blog of Paul Chris Jones

Spring Fair

2nd April 2022 Paul Chris Jones

Dear Diary. The first half of the day was bad. 4-year-old wanted to spend the whole time with me. Hours and hours with a four-year-old gets boring after a while. I have to read him comics for an hour then we made videos using my phone. I had a break but during that break, I had to do the laundry so it wasn't a break. By the end, I felt like screaming into a pillow. This was 3 pm at this point and I had to go to the bedroom and shut myself in and read the book.

But then the second half of the day was fantastic because at 4-year-old’s school there was a Spring Festival and all the kids went dressed up. 4-year-old went as a butterfly so this is the first time, I've been to one of these because last year it was cancelled because of COVID. And yeah, the atmosphere was joyous and fun and I swear I had a big smile on my face the whole time. And then everywhere I looked there were kids in different costumes and the costumes were good. There was a Minecraft costume, a girl dressed as a fairy and all kinds of stuff. And the kids in each class did a choreographed dance routine like, I don't think I've ever experienced such an atmosphere of joy and warmth before, maybe at the Comic-Con last year and Girona maybe. I didn't know that these kids had such creativity and enthusiasm in them. A parent was standing on the roof and throwing balloons down to the kids. And the kids were screaming and running and popping the balloons and the adults were laughing. I found myself laughing too.

Then the kids did a giant conga and went out of the playground onto the street and blocked the traffic. It was great.

There was a competition for the best parent in costume. Only one dad went in costume. He wore suglasses, a necktie and a purple 70s floral shirt. (Though maybe these were his normal clothes?). Since he was the only so he was the winner by default. This means I have to enter next year because there's a good chance I'll win something.
