The shit blog of Paul Chris Jones

Night shift #4

9th August 2013 Paul Chris Jones

Dear Diary. It is afternoon. I hear music. It is good to hear music. Out the window I see a stage in the park opposite my apartment. A band is rehearsing on it. I go out to investigate. A woman gives me a flyer and tells me there will be a concert tonight.

At 8pm the concert starts. The concert is professional but there are only twenty people watching. It is like an event from Animal Crossing. I post on facebook that it is "surreal and wonderful". I am privately moved to tears by a cover of Adele’s Someone Like You. Simultaneously I am aware that this is just a short-term fix to my unhappiness; that I am latching on to this concert out of emotional desperation.

Girlfriend comes home. "I'm still a bit angry with you,” she says.

I head to work and do my last shift of the week. I finish, as usual, at 7 am.
