New job

Conference room at Bug-tracker

3pm. I'm outside a building for an interview with Bug-tracker, a video games testing company. Knowing that I should dress appropriately, I am wearing shorts, sneakers and a t-shirt. Chances are my flies are also undone. It's raining and I have my umbrella, albeit missing its handle that I lost weeks ago. I stole the umbrella from a hostel I won't name. (So I won't admit it was the Alexandrie hostel.)

Dear Diary. Inside, I'm led into a meeting room. I'm surprised to find nine guys, between the ages of 18 and 30, also in the room. It turns out they are all here for interviews too.

There is a test. We have to write the definitions of ten or so gaming terms. Some are easy, such as screenshot, memory card, handheld, and bug; others are more difficult, such as AVI, build, texture, collision, and showstopper. I know all the answers thanks to working at Babel. On the back of the test, we have to write the five most recent games we have played.

The management talk between themselves. Then the results come in. The winner is... everyone! This is the Oprah Winfrey of job interviews. "You get a job! And you get a job! Everybody gets a job!" For some reason, I feel depressed. I think it's because I preferred Babel.

I'm asked, "When can you start? Tomorrow? Right now?" It's decided I will start tomorrow.
